Are You Ready to Transition to Mobile and Cloud Technologies? | @CloudExpo #Cloud

In recent years, quality assurance teams have become accustomed to a variety of new technologies. It has been a big change for the many quality assurance analysts who came of age at a time when waterfall development methodologies and PC-centric applications were their front and center concerns. Now they have to adjust to the realities of cloud computing and the ever-expanding mobile device ecosystem. A lot of infrastructures, development platforms and applications are being shifted off-premises to public and private clouds, while the device mix at many enterprises is becoming more diverse.

There’s No C in DevOps | @DevOpsSummit @XebiaLabs #DevOps #Microservices

These days I mostly make my living as a consultant. Consultants in general are probably not the best loved group in the world. It is common to think of consultants wafting-in to your organization, telling you things that you already know and advising you to “change your culture”, whatever that means. Subsequently they depart, no-doubt with a fat fee, and leave you as you were before with the same problems and no progress made.

Top Two Features of Self-Healing Microservices | @CloudExpo #Cloud #Microservices

Microservices-based environments are more complex than their monolithic counterparts. To operate microservices environments with the same level of convenience that you’ve come expect from operating self-contained monolithic application environments, you need to have the right tools in place and rely on best practices that will keep your microservices healthy. We’ve noticing an increasing number of microservices environments deployed by our customers, and the trend only seems to be increasing. We recently asked some of these customers about their experiences. Most of their responses were in line with expectations. Two issues however caught us by surprise.

Scaled Agile Factory - Going Beyond the Usual Suspects | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps

If you address the question of how to scale Agile projects by considering what framework to use, you are only looking at one aspect of the problem. Scaling is all about coordination – managing enterprise considerations and cross program dependencies, and the defacto frameworks (SAFe, LeSS and DAD) focus on the people and process dimensions. However, in combination with a factory approach you may be able to automate many of the compliance and dependency management issues.

Critical (Outdoor) IoT Applications | @ThingsExpo #IoT #IIoT #M2M #InternetOfThings

It’s safe to assume that the majority of all Internet of Things (IoT) devices operate near large populations of people. Of course, right? This is where the action happens – smart devices, smart cars, smart infrastructure, smart cities, etc. Plus, the cost of getting “internet-connected” in these areas is relatively low – public access to Wi-Fi is becoming widely available, cellular coverage is blanketed over cities, etc.

Step-by-Step IoTization | @ThingsExpo #IoT #IIoT #M2M #DigitalTransormation

The paradigm has shifted. A Gartner survey shows that 43% of organizations are using or plan to implement the Internet of Things in 2016. However, not just a handful of companies are still using the old-style ad-hoc trial-and-error ways, unaware of the critical barriers, paint points, traps, and hidden roadblocks. How can you become a winner? In his session at @ThingsExpo, Tony Shan will present a methodical approach to guide the holistic adoption and enablement of IoT implementations. This overarching model is an adaptive framework to systematically handle the rapid changes and exponential growth, composed of the following modules: Prototype, Extend, Assess, Strategize, Formulate, Accelerate, Initiate, and Revamp (PEAS FAIR). We will zoom in to individual components in each module. Working examples will be discussed to illustrate the practical use of this method in the real world, along with best practices and lessons learned to help organizations IoTize step-by-step.

Has SaaS Become Mission Critical for You? By @Catchpoint | @CloudExpo #Cloud

Software as a Service has been around for a while. In its early years—late 1990s-early 2000s—it was mostly aimed at individual and departmental use, but in more recent years SaaS has been deployed at the enterprise level. There are companies that don’t use anything else. In the beginning, SaaS was used by companies more for productivity applications like web conferencing, managing travel expenses and sales contacts, or time-tracking than for core business applications.

ITIL vs. DevOps in Financial Service Organizations | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps

In today's world, where technology is central to every industry, it has become increasingly important to deliver software not only faster, but safer, in order to stay competitive. One of the markets where security and compliance is a crucial element to the software delivery process is in Financial Services (FinServ). Many FinServ organizations are reliant upon technology to achieve their goals and remain competitive in the marketplace. As Jeffrey Snover, a distinguished engineer at Microsoft, observed, "In previous economic eras, businesses created value by moving atoms. Now they create value by moving bits." The irony is that if there's any industry that has created (and occasionally destroyed) massive amounts of economic value by moving bits as quickly as possible, it's FinServ. While these organizations need to move fast, they must simultaneously emphasize aspects of security and compliance to eliminate risk. Whether it's at the ATM or on a mobile app, FinServ organizations must also ensure that their customers' private information is just that - private.
