Badges, Passports, the Creator, the Founder, the Mayor, getting a Pin, picking up a raccoon..This is the language of the newest phenomenon to hit the location-enabled social media marketing world. I am talking about Social Networking Games. No longer only for geeks and geocachers, these are real tools for seeing where your friends are, in real time, as they “check-in” to locations and share what they are doing. Since the device knows where it is, you can only check in to a location you are visiting. While mobile location sharing is not new, incentives that tap our competitive side offered by a “game” are, and this makes all the difference.

IT is reliable today largely because of years of investment in management, monitoring and modeling. So, as the paradigm shift to Cloud Computing occurs, will we still be able to leverage these investments? This is the question that will be asked - and asnwered - by 3Tera Chairman and CEO Barry X Lynn in his upcoming session at the largest cloud computing event in the world, the 5th Cloud Expo in New York (19-21 April, 2010). Lynn's session will focus on how the management of IT in the Cloud needs to evolve in order for Cloud to become pervasive and even more reliable that IT is today.

Twitter is a very simple and easy service to use and becasue of its openness (via numerous APIs) there are numerous Twitter clients from providers other than Twitter itself that you can use. From thick clients such as TweetDeck to thin web-based clients such as HootSuite to mobile and smart phone clients such as TinyTwitter, there are many options. You can also tweet via basic text/SMS to 40404. And if you don't like any of these options and can program, you can always write your own Twitter client using the Twitter APIs.

If Phillips had moved from Oracle to CA, he might have been richer - although that's hard to believe - but not necessarily happier considering McCracken reportedly wanted him to execute on McCracken's strategy, which is reportedly focused on the cloud. In that case, note that CA Thursday joined the Cloud Security Alliance as a corporate member to help establish and promote best practices for security in cloud computing, meaning to kick in its identity and access management expertise. It said it is "working with enterprise customers and cloud service providers to securely adopt and deliver cloud services." SAP could sure use a bit of that.

Risking the fire-breathing wrath of Apple, Opera plans to preview an unsanctioned version of its browser for the iPhone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. Cautiously, it’s not going to show it off to just anybody, only partners and the press. How Apple will react in defense of its own Safari browser is a curiosity given its policy of not duplicating functionality and casting Google Voice into the outer darkness last year.
