Platform as a service (PaaS) is a big piece of the cloud computing puzzle, the other pieces being Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and Application software as a service (SaaS). PaaS enables the delivery of solution frameworks and components as on-demand, pay-as-you-go services. Some examples of these are Google Apps Engine, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Windows Azure platform, SalesForce Force.com platform, Cisco WebEx Connect platform. PaaS will allow developers to create SaaS applications with agility and will be critical to the success of cloud computing. Also launched by Vinay Singla are IT as a Service, and Saas Journal.

Apple has announced that Mac OS(R) X v10.6 Snow Leopard(TM) will go on sale Friday, August 28 at Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers, and that Apple's online store is now accepting pre-orders. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. Snow Leopard will be available as an upgrade for Mac OS X Leopard(R) users for $29.
For the first time, iPhone users can choose to live stream audio to their own web site or pre-record up to 60 minutes of audio and upload it later. Callers also have the option to use SpinVox voice to text conversion to produce title, tags and a transcript, plus all of the things you’d expect including adding photos from the phone, geolocating the call and automatically integrating with social media (Twitter, Facebook) and popular blogging platforms. Listeners can subscribe to each “channel” as a podcast in iTunes, within an ipadio account, via RSS or even old fashioned email. IPod Touch users can of course record and publish via ipadio.
You can probably feel my pain, when I say that one of the worst things to do when you have such a great mobile device at hand, is to rely on a larger heaver device aka the laptop, to do things that are day to day necessities. For the average mobile worker, email and access to PIM data is the killer app, and any smartphone worth its weight (or lack of it) will be able to do that more than adequately.
I would say that I am not really hooked on my Smartphone... unless you ask Mrs Thain, who I'm sure would give you a whole different answer. Yes...I'm Ian and I'm hooked on my Smartphone, LOL :-)

Lightstreamer and Valemobi from Sao Paulo, Brazil have signed an agreement where Valemobi will distribute Lightstreamer's push technology as part of Valemobi's platform for Real-time iPhone solutions. "We chose Lightstreamer because this is the state-of-the art middleware for distributing real-time data. If sales isn't responding - then marketing is responsible. Marketing's role is to give sales the tools and training they need to sell the company's solutions. It's also marketing's role to get them excited about the newest offerings. So the next time someone starts to blame sales for lack of product acceptance in your customer base or for discounting deals that don't generate the margin or results you expected - think again. It's most likely sales is doing the best they can with what they've been given.
Modulation Index, LLC announced that the Tuner2 Hi-Fi Radio app for Apple iPhone is the first ever iPhone application to natively support the true RTMP protocol for streaming audio via Adobe Flash Media Server. Radio stations can now use a single standard streaming format to serve MPEG-4 HE AAC v2 audio to listeners on Windows, Mac, and Apple iPhone. In addition, Modulation Index announced that this functionality is also available immediately to all station customers taking delivery of customized versions of its iPhone radio app.
