Intel Monday launched its first halogen-free Xeons and said all existing versions of the Xeon 5200 and 5400 series will now be halogen-free too. According to their creator, the four new quad-core chips “reach new heights in performance and energy efficiency” and that’s largely because of Intel’s 45nm manufacturing process.
Unlike wireline service, mobile phones rely on often precarious over-the-air radio transmissions to carry time-sensitive voice traffic. Add to this the transforming of voice calls into IP-routed traffic; microphones and speakers disconnected from the device via Bluetooth; high-bandwidth competition from e-mail, data, and video downloads – plus multiple hand-offs between network elements, like routers, switches, and gateways – and there’s a Pandora’s box of traps in the transaction where voice quality can degrade.
What Apple has done with its App Store is show the world that the key to monetizing the cloud is in the delivery of the key applications and assets (music, video, ringtones) through a simple and accessible channel. In the last few weeks Microsoft, Google and T-mobile have all announced efforts to create what I am calling "cloud marketspaces" for the delivery of mobile software using a similar model to that of Apple's iPhone App Store.
There are two distinct ways to develop applications for Apple's iPhone, the top tech gadget of the year. Programmers can choose to create optimized web applications using web languages or to write native programs using the iPhone SDK. Rather than seeing this as an either-or proposition, developers should consider the choice a continuum and pick the right tool to create each individual program. With iPhone web applications, programmers can enjoy all the advantages of the Internet, including ease of development and deployment, speed of updating and off-line server access. Meanwhile, with iPhone native applications, programmers can immerse themselves in a sophisticated development environment, dig deep into an object-oriented language, and access the iPhone's built-in utilities, like its accelerometers and its GPS. This talk will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each style of programming and discuss ways to hybridize them, creating integrated projects that utilize the best of both worlds.
An NDA is something that you volunteer for, it is willful act, you must choose to agree to the terms of the NDA. No one is forcing you to do it, there are no guns pointed at your head. If you do not like or agree with the terms of the NDA, then do not sign it. However, if you do choose to sign it, then, in my opinion, you lose the right to bitch and moan about the fact that you cannot divulge privileged information. We all knew what we were getting into when we agreed to the iPhone Developer Program NDA, and we all know that when you buy a WWDC ticket, you are bound by an NDA that covers every word overhead, every word displayed, every piece of content in that conference with the exception of the keynote. If we really feel so strongly that these NDAs are overbearing and excessive, then we have the right to voice our disapproval by NOT agreeing to them.

Sun has got multi-year OEM deals with Avanquest Software, Q-layer and Zenith InfoTech to move its bought-in cross-platform xVM VirtualBox widgetry. The stuff is free from Sun and runs multiple operating systems on the same desktop at the same time, which means OEMs can use virtual machines as self-contained distribution mechanisms for their solutions. Sun claims five million VirtualBox downloads since January 2007 although it only bought the stuff in February.

So I finally got my hands on an iPhone 3G but am currently still favoring my iPhone 2.5G – why? The signal seems better; 3G signal is patchy at best and forget receiving calls when you have 3G on – horrible…; the battery life is **much** better on the original iPhone than on the 3G iPhone; all my accessories such as Power Monkey fit the original iPhone but not the new 3G iPhone as Apple in their wisdom changed the connector.
