Wasteland 2 meets funding goal

Brian Fargo's bid to fund development of a sequel to post-apocalyptic PC RPG Wasteland has already proven successful after the project passed its target on crowdfunding website Kickstarter. Fargo's InXile Entertainment studio sought $900,000 for Wasteland 2, a sequel to the 1988 game which inspired Fallout. At the time of writing the project has raised $923,028 from 16,015 backers, with 33 days left on the clock.

One Piece holds Japan top spot

One Piece: Pirate Warriors is the Japanese all-formats number one for a second week, despite sales falling by over 85 per cent week on week. In second place is Sega's Hatsune Miku And Future Stars: Project Mirai for 3DS, according to Media Create data posted on NeoGaf.

Up to 30 staff have been laid off at Obsidian Entertainment, according to reports. Sources have told Joystiq that the cuts follow the cancellation of a next-gen title, dubbed Project North Carolina. Layoffs have also hit the team working on the South Park RPG that was announced in December.

Mass Effect 3 ending petition raises $30k

Organisers of a petition pleading with BioWare to change the ending of Mass Effect 3 have raised over $30,000 for gaming charity Child's Play. The campaign, dubbed Retake Mass Effect 3, has almost 25,000 likes on Facebook and 3,000 followers on Twitter, with a poll on BioWare's forums attracting almost 10,000 votes. We won't go into the finer details of their complaints for fear of plot spoilers.

Capcom apologises to Xbox 360 Street Fighter X Tekken players

Capcom has apologised to Xbox 360 owners of Street Fighter X Tekken, admitting it cut an advertised feature from the game due to time constraints. The publisher's latest is a two-on-two fighting game which lets two players pair up for online fights. Shortly after the game's release last week, Xbox 360 owners complained that two players on the same console were unable to play online, a feature which is available to PS3 owners and is listed in both versions' instruction manuals.

Double Fine Kickstarter closes with $3.3 million

Double Fine's bid to raise funding for an old-school PS point-and-click adventure came to a close last night, raising a total of $3,336,371 from over 87,000 backers. The project began last month, with Tim Schafer's studio asking for a modest $400,000 to fund development of the game. That total was passed within hours, and hit a million within a day.

Major League Gaming raises $11.3 million

Major League Gaming (MLG) has raised $11.3 million in funding, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. VentureBeat reports that MLG, which organises eSports events across the US, is seeking a total of $13 million. It has previously raised more than $50 milion, and snapped up other eSports companies GameBattles and Agora Games.
