Skyrim contains entirety of Tamriel

When making the fifth game in its The Elder Scrolls series, Bethesda didn't just build Skyrim. It built the entire Tamriel landmass, with Oblivion and Morrowind mapped out and accessible with a bit of tinkering. The discovery was made by Jesse, a 19-year-old blogger from Finland, who ventured to Stendarr's Beacon, the south-eastern corner of Skyrim and the closest part to Morrorwind.

Pickford slams BAFTA game awards

Veteran developer Ste Pickford has decried the British Academy Of Film And Television Arts' (BAFTA) Videogame Awards, saying the excessive fees charged to those submitting their games for consideration prevents indie developers from receiving the recognition they deserve. Together with brother John, Pickford has developed over 80 games, including the likes of beloved SNES platformer Plok!, turn-based strategy title Naked War, and most recently iOS game Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint, in a career spanning the best part of thirty years. In an opinion piece for Spong, Pickford praises iOS word game Quarrel for winning a Scottish BAFTA, but laments the way the awards are structured south of the border.

Bethesda patches PC Skyrim

Bethesda Softworks has released a patch for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but it doesn't fix any of the game's technical issues. Instead, it limits what players can do with the game. Rock Paper Shotgun reports that the patch ties the game's executable to Steam security. The most significant consequence of this is preventing users from modding said executable with a thirdparty patch to make it large address aware, which permitted Skyrim to use more than 2GB of system RAM.

Fractal: Make Blooms Not War review

Cipher Prime's puzzler brilliantly explores the joys of hex.

A good puzzle game subtly rewires your brain, and there are certainly enough surprises lurking within Fractal to get some new synapses firing. Cipher Prime's extremely pretty offering tasks you with creating "blooms", circular groupings of seven same-coloured hexes, by tapping an empty space on the board and "pushing" new tiles out in the direction of every piece touching it. It's a challenging concept to get your head around at first, and not one that you'll easily confuse with the likes of Tetris or Bejeweled.
