While full of praise for Team Bondi's MotionScan technology, Kojima rules out using it in his next game.

Viking development

Clint Hocking drives home the need to attract more female developers to an industry currently too obsessed with fart jokes.

Young men tend to behave in a fairly predictable fashion. It’s easy to imagine what will happen if you take a group of 30 or 40 men in their teens and twenties, give them axes and beer, and make them row a longship out to sea for a few weeks in order to make a living. There will be a lot of pent-up aggression. There will be a lot of fart jokes. When they finally reach land, they will cut loose – and if there’s no strict rule of enforceable law where they come ashore, watch out.

Vlambeer's Luftrauser isn't just for Time Pilot fanboys

Featuring a menacing soundtrack that seems to feature chiptunes as played at a Nazi party rally, Super Crate Box developer Vlambeer has released another little gem in the shape of shooter Luftrauser. Pilot your manoeuvrable plane through hostile skies to take on squadrons of enemy fighters and flotillas of ships. Despite its four-colour pixel style it's surprisingly brutal in feel as you weave through bullets and enemies, managing inertia and gravity. Favourite details include the spray as your plane jets across the sea's surface, and the little boom and accelerating lurch as you engage your thruster. Play through the source link below.

BW, the game is to be released this summer as a free download from the iOS App Store and Android Market.

The speed of information

Thom Dinsdale charts corporate responses to the spate of hacking that has recently paralysed the industry.

The past few weeks have been a distressing time for those in the business of data security - and equally testing for those in the business of convincing consumers that their data is in safe hands. But with Lulzsec, unofficial symbol of the hackstravaganza, disbanded and drawing an at least conceptual line beneath the recent spate of data breaches and security hacks, can we condemn the experience of the last few weeks as yet another brief blip in internet history?

Two game designers make BAFTA's 'Brits To Watch' list

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has revealed the names of the 42 ‘Brits to Watch’ who will be the focus of the inaugural event taking place on Saturday July 9 at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. The list of emerging talents - who “will generally not be complete beginners in their industry, and will have already begun to show real promise” - includes two game designers. Charles Griffiths is currently working on Fable: The Journey at Lionhead Studios, and recently made his own demo, Shuffle, while BAFTA-winning designer Matt Turner has worked on Race Driver: Grid and Dirt 2, among other projects, and joined Playground Games last year. BAFTA launched its videogames branch in the US last month, forming a Los Angeles-based committee in a bid "to secure an ongoing, collaborative US membership".
