Kinect FPS Blackwater announced

505 Games insists its modern military shooter - which casts players as a contractor of the infamous private military firm in North Africa - is not an FPS but an FPX: a firstperson experience. "Being able to get the controller out of player's hands with Kinect and have them on the ground and immersed in the experience will give them a glimpse of what it takes to be a member of an elite fighting force," said 505 Games president Ian Howe.

From Dust trailer

Not many game creators can sustain being called a visionary, but Eric Chahi is one of those few. His first game in over 12 years powerfully blends imaginative art and technological science, producing a novel and, dare we say it, poetic take on the RTS. And it's a nice little nod back to the likes of Populous, too. From Dust is one to watch for when it comes out in summer.

Nintendo shares hit five-year low

Analysts unimpressed by paucity of information revealed during yesterday's E3 conference.

Nintendo's stock price has slumped to its lowest level in five years in the wake of yesterday's Wii U announcement, with analysts questioning whether the Wii's success can be repeated by its successor.

Bloomberg reports that Nintendo's stock tumbled 5.7 per cent to ¥16,930 per share at the close of trading today in Osaka. More than 2.2 million shares were traded, more than three times the six-month daily average of 720,000.

Wii U CPU and GPU revealed

IBM is providing a 45 nanometer Power-based CPU, made at its East Fishkill, New York, factory. It means that Wii U is the third Nintendo running that IBM has powered. AMD, meanwhile, is providing its GPU, a custom Radeon HD, again, for the third Nintendo console in a row.

Dust 514's a PS3 exclusive because "Sony is a lot more open"

"Most of Dust is running on our own technology ... And Sony is a lot more... open, shall we say, to allowing you to do those things," says producer Thomas Farrer. "It may seem silly, but on Xbox Live your identity is your Xbox Live identity. In the EVE universe, having people not know who you are is quite important." On whether a 360 version is a possibility, he says that working on platform "means you don’t have to make any awkward compromises, technically. Also you get the benefit of a closer relationship with that platform."

Wii U disc size similar to Blu-ray

Nintendo's proprietary 12cm format will hold up to 25GB of data, according to Nintendo EAD senior producer Katsuya Eguchi. The drive will also support Wii discs, but not, reportedly, Blu-ray. The console will also support external USB drives.

Some Wii U footage was actually from PS3/360 game versions

"Absolutely," Reggie Fils-Aime admits. "We're talking a year away from when the system's going to launch." Asked whether the games will look better on Wii U than their PS3 and 360 counterparts, Fils-Aime says that it will depend on the developers. "The system's going to be 1080p, it's going to be high definition. Tick that box, that's done; now it's about what is the new experience we're going to bring?"

The 2D Adventures Of Rotating Octopus Character review

Even if it wasn't part of Sony's Welcome Back to PSN package, you'd be silly to miss this poised two-button platformer.

The rotating octopus character may not have his own name, but he comes to you bearing some impeccable indie credentials instead. Dakko Dakko’s PSP mini has been created by ex-PixelJunk designer Rhodri Broadbent, and it’s decked out with Army of Trolls artwork and challenge mode target times provided by a founding member of the Media Molecule team. As a result, the game’s so rife with quirk and personality that it even apologises for the mandatory quick save text that appears each time you load it up.

OnLive to go portable on iPad and Android

Cloud gaming trailblazer apparently takes a swipe at Wii U with extensive tablet support.

OnLive has announced the OnLive Player App, which will enable streaming play of "virtually all" OnLive games on iPad and Android tablets. Due for launch in Autumn, it will support both touch control and OnLive's new Universal Motion Controller. The app overlays virtual buttons over the screen if the controller isn't used - a demo at E3 of From Dust uses virtual controls that have been designed by its developers. It also supports multiplayer voice chat.

Ubisoft pledges support for Wii U

As well as its Assassin's Creed, Raving Rabbids and Ghost Recon franchises, it will be creating two new IPs for Nintendo's new console, one exclusive, a "revolutionary" firstperson shooter for the "hardcore audience" and a multi-sports family game. “Nintendo is an industry reference for game design and accessibility. We are very honored to be a strong part of this new chapter of the videogame industry,” says Yves Guillemot.

Fils-Aime vague on Wii U online

Nintendo of America president says new console will have "all of that type of capability built in." When pressed, he explains: "Our approach will be a flexible one, taking the best of what each of our thirdparty partners has to offer, marrying that with the best of what Nintendo does and bringing that versus a more rigid, more closed type of environment." Thankfully, he promises Nintendo "will be sharing what we're doing from an online perspective in the next couple of days."

Super Mario 3DS trailer

Nintendo declined to specify a release date for Mario's 3D debut, Reggie Fils-Aime refusing to be drawn further than "before the end of the year." The firm will doubtless hope the return of its flagship series will drive improved 3DS sales - as Reggie put it: "If it's true that software sells hardware, then no-one has sold more systems than Mario."
