
US movie and TV streaming service Netflix is now available on Wii.
Plans to bring the service - which offers thousands of movies and TV episodes - to Nintendo’s home console were announced in January.
Streaming from Netflix via the Wii console is provided at no additional cost to Netflix members who have a plan starting at $8.99 a month, a Wii console and a broadband connection.

The UK games market declined by 7.8 per cent during the first three months of the year.
It generated £303m in the 13 weeks ended April 4, down from £329m a year earlier, according to MCV research based on GfK Chart-Track data.

Microsoft appears to have accidentally rubber-stamped Edge's prediction that Gears Of War 3 will release in April 2011.

Sony’s PS3 was the bestselling platform in Japan during the week ended April 4, moving just shy of 39,000 units.
That narrowly edged PSP’s sales total of 37,500.
Wii placed third with 31,000 units, followed by the three current DS models, which achieved combined sales of over 41,000 units.
Xbox 360 occupied its regular position near the foot of the chart, ahead of PS2 and PSPgo, which were neck-and-neck.

Publisher LucasArts has reportedly shelved plans to launch Star Wars: Battlefront Online.

Quantic Dream co-CEO David Cage has revealed that Heavy Rain has sold over one million copies, exceeding the expectations of many.
Speaking to German site Play3 (via CVG), he said: "We have sold more than one million copies of Heavy Rain worldwide. That was a surprise to many, since estimated sales were between 200,000 to 300,000 units.

Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling has said that the first Modern Warfare 2 downloadable content will be released on PS3 and PC early next month.
“The Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package DLC will hit PS3 in North America on May 4th, everywhere else May 5th,” Bowling confirmed on Twitter. “PC gets it worldwide on May 4th."

Apple CEO Steve Jobs today claimed that the company is struggling to meet iPad demand, with the tablet platform having topped 450,000 sales since its April 3 US launch.
"We're making [iPads] as fast as we can. Evidently we can't make enough of them yet so we are going to have to try harder," he said, noting that major retailers including Best Buy were experiencing sell-outs.

A new study from Pearl Research has found that the Chinese online gaming market grew 35 per cent last year to $3.9 billion.
The research firm said that the jump was primarily driven by the growing popularity of games on social networking sites such as QZone, Renren and Kaixin001.

Vancouver-based SOCOM developer Slant Six has suffered an unspecified number of “temporary layoffs”.
Managing director Brian Thalken told GameSpot that the studio’s "current project needs do not align with our current staffing levels", and that the developer will bring back "as many of these staff members as possible" once work on new projects picks up.
He added that the affected employees would receive extended benefits while not at work.

Mobile phone operator Orange has released its latest Orange Digital Media Index, providing insight into the behaviour of its 17.4 million UK customers.
The report looked at digital usage patterns across Orange’s entertainment and communications services between October and December 2009, and found that UK consumers downloaded 650,000 games during the period.

FirstPlay, Europe’s first on-console, interactive show, will launch today in high definition on PS3.
The weekly, subscription based show will be accessible via the PlayStation Network in the UK at launch, and across selected European and PAL territories later this year.

The BBC has revealed plans to release Doctor Who: The Adventure Games, a series of four downloadable PC and Mac titles.
Complementing the new TV series, the games will let players take control of the Doctor and Amy. They’ll feature new and original monsters, with the first episode set to be made available in April.
The games are being developed by Sumo Digital and executive produced by Broken Sword creator Charles Cecil, alongside BBC Wales Interactive.
