Carrying out a Masters dissertation research project is basically a learning exercise, preparing one to go on with research in the future (Hamish - discussions board).

Don't necessarily plan to conduct any further research in the future. Is doing the dissertation worthwhile for me? Perhaps not.

  1. I understand this feeling, Jez, especially when there seem to be so many constraints emerging about the claims we can make and how we should go about it.  But it's clear from your earlier blogs that you have a curiosity about how people learn that might encourage you to continue.  We may be learning how "to be" researchers - but the product itself can still be valuable; these are not mutually exclusive.  I hope you do continue; I'd certainly be interested in the connections you're raising between culture, language, learning and online activity.

  2. Thanks, Christine! That's encouraging.

I always tend to evaluate very carefully the next stage of the whole MSc programme, just because it's a huge commitment on time (and money)!
