iPhone in Action: Web Development or SDK?

There are two distinct ways to develop applications for Apple's iPhone, the top tech gadget of the year. Programmers can choose to create optimized web applications using web languages or to write native programs using the iPhone SDK. Rather than seeing this as an either-or proposition, developers should consider the choice a continuum and pick the right tool to create each individual program. With iPhone web applications, programmers can enjoy all the advantages of the Internet, including ease of development and deployment, speed of updating and off-line server access. Meanwhile, with iPhone native applications, programmers can immerse themselves in a sophisticated development environment, dig deep into an object-oriented language, and access the iPhone's built-in utilities, like its accelerometers and its GPS. This talk will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each style of programming and discuss ways to hybridize them, creating integrated projects that utilize the best of both worlds.

AdMob Sees Explosive Growth in iPhone Advertising

AdMob, the world's largest mobile advertising marketplace, today demonstrated the explosive growth in advertising on the iPhone by announcing the company served more than 35 million ads on this popular device in August. The company's new rich media ad units designed for the iPhone have been live for just over a month and now have a reach of more than 100 million impressions worldwide each month. Ads on the iPhone deliver strong engagement for advertisers with triple, on average, the already high click-through-rates seen on mobile.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Invites Governor Sarah Palin to Russia

Her Dubai vacation was fully paid for by Dick Cheney's Dubai-based oil company Halliburton, which also sells $1,000 dollar-a piece-lobsters and Haagen Dazs ice cream to 250,000 troops in Iraq. The Iraq bill for taxpayers is currently running at $5 billion per month. If Sarah Palin is elected, she needs to meet with Halliburton executives in Dubai more often as she will be taking over this defense duty from Dick Cheney.

Apple Drops the iPhone NDA for Released Software

Rest assured that I'll be commenting further on this subject, but I wanted to post letting people know that the floodgates are about to open. I'm guessing iPhone bloggers are going to start posting massive amounts of code samples in the coming days. Good times for all... It's just a shame that Apple took so long to open the doors. I feel really bad for the authors who had to change their writing plans and even change the content of their books to accommodate Apple's resistance to lifting the NDA.

Kurt Cobain About a Son

An intimate and moving meditation on the late musician and artist Kurt Cobain, based on more than 25 hours of previously unheard audiotaped interviews conducted with Cobain by noted music journalist Michael Azerrad for his book "Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana." In the film, Kurt Cobain recounts his own life - from his childhood and adolescence to his days of musical discovery and later dealings with explosive fame - and offers often piercing insights into his life, music, and times. The conversations heard in the film have never before been made public and they reveal a highly personal portrait of an artist much discussed but not particularly well understood.

Planet Earth: Jungles

There is, perhaps, no scene that conjures the word "primordial" more than that of a shadowy, steamy jungle. There are mysteries hidden everywhere, otherworldly screams, camouflaged predators, noxious plants, stinging bugs, mold, decay and boggy impassable ground. It is, in the minds of many, the very thing civilization was invented to fend off.

The Money Masters - How International Bankers Gained Control of America

THE MONEY MASTERS is a 3 1/2 hour non-fiction, historical documentary that traces the origins of the political power structure that rules our nation and the world today. The modern political power structure has its roots in the hidden manipulation and accumulation of gold and other forms of money. The development of fractional reserve banking practices in the 17th century brought to a cunning sophistication the secret techniques initially used by goldsmiths fraudulently to accumulate wealth. With the formation of the privately-owned Bank of England in 1694, the yoke of economic slavery to a privately-owned "central" bank was first forced upon the backs of an entire nation, not removed but only made heavier with the passing of the three centuries to our day. Nation after nation, including America, has fallen prey to this cabal of international central bankers.

Planet Earth: Great Plains

Christopher Columbus was wrong: The Earth is flat, at least in places. There are seemingly endless expanses of open ground, flat as the mind can imagine, found on every continent. Sometimes they are covered with grasses, ice or low shrubs that dot the land like stubble on a vast expanse of dry skin.

Alex Jones Martial Law 911 Rise of the Police State

The film documents.... What the modern day police state looks like as thousands of peaceful protesters are forcibly detained at a Guantanamo style detention camp called Pier 57 during the 2004 Republican National Convention. How multitudes of New Yorkers and others are fully aware of the fact that 9/11 was an inside job and are now actively exposing the people behind it. Why the collapse of Building 7 is potentially the biggest smoking gun indicating government involvement in 9/11. Alex returns to the scene of the crime to physically dissect why the official story can be nothing else but a fraud. >> The occult and satanic underpinnings of the ruling elite families and how their oath to secret societies and each other makes a mockery of their counterfeit pseudo-loyalty to America and what it is supposed to stand for. >> Arnold Schwarzenegger's alarming and sordid past and why his intentions should unnerve us all in light of his fated future presidential run. A womanizing, egotistic, power-mad, imperious Nazi whose ideals are diametrically opposed to those represented by the founding fathers.

Rich Internet Applications or Rich Interactive Experiences?

'Enough with the new words already.' That was how Sean Voisen recently ended a discussion about the burgeoning technology lexicon, which he thinks can only be explained as 'a ploy to keep Merriam-Webster in business.' Voisen, who designs and builds Rich Internet Applications, web applications, data visualizations and what he calls 'other fun pieces of Internet-enabled software' for a living, is not a fan of 'RIA' as a term.
