Shortcomings of ETL Tools | @CloudEXPO @Infostretch #Cloud #CIO #BigData #Analytics #AWS #Serverless #DataCenter

Poor data quality and analytics drive down business value. In fact, Gartner estimated that the average financial impact of poor data quality on organizations is $9.7 million per year. But bad data is much more than a cost center. By eroding trust in information, analytics and the business decisions based on these, it is a serious impediment to digital transformation. Extract, transform and load (ETL) tools like AWC Glue bring much needed functionality. This tool enables new approaches to pulling, processing and pushing data from source to target, and introduces concepts such as performing data transformation tasks using SparkSQL scripts in Apache spark environment. However, there are shortcomings with AWS Glue, leading to a number of challenges and questions:

Using Artificial Intelligence for Evil | @CloudEXPO @CylanceInc | Cloud #CIO #AI #DataCenter #Security #ArtificialIntelligence

Artificial intelligence is positively affecting our world in previously unimaginable ways across many different industries. The use of AI is particularly interesting in the cybersecurity industry because of its unique ability to scale and prevent previously unseen zero-day attacks and for automating complicated analysis and processes at machine speed. But just in the way drug cartels built their own submarines and cellphone towers to evade law enforcement, so too will cyber-criminals build their own AI systems to carry out malicious attacks. AI is a force for good and has demonstrated great success thus far in security applications; but AI can also be used for evil. Malcolm Harkins, Chief Security and Trust Officer at Cylance, will cover the basics of AI technology, how AI is currently being used for evil and suggested ways to combat AI attacks.

Kubernetes for Enterprise | @KubeSUMMIT @NirmataCloud #DevOps #CloudNative #Serverless #Docker #Kubernetes

Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder. Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. This leads to a waste of cloud resources and increased operational overhead.

Serverless Keynote at @KubeSUMMIT | @DavidLinthicum @Deloitte @DeloitteUS @DeloitteOnTech #CloudNative #Serverless #DevOps #Kubernetes

In a recent survey, Sumo Logic surveyed 1,500 customers who employ cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). According to the survey, a quarter of the respondents have already deployed Docker containers and nearly as many (23 percent) are employing the AWS Lambda serverless computing framework. It's clear: serverless is here to stay. The adoption does come with some needed changes, within both application development and operations. That means serverless is also changing the way we leverage public clouds. Truth-be-told, many enterprise IT shops were so happy to get out of the management of physical servers within a data center that many limitations of the existing public IaaS clouds were forgiven. However, now that we've lived a few years with public IaaS clouds, developers and CloudOps pros are giving a huge thumbs down to the constant monitoring of servers, provisioned or not, that's required to support the workloads.

Data center, on-premise, public-cloud, private-cloud, multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud, IoT, AI, edge, SaaS, PaaS... it's an availability, security, performance and integration nightmare even for the best of the best IT experts. Organizations realize the tremendous benefits of everything the digital transformation has to offer. Cloud adoption rates are increasing significantly, and IT budgets are morphing to follow suit. But distributing applications and infrastructure around increases risk, introduces complexity and challenges availability at every turn. To embrace DX and to come out on top, there are four underlying principles that should guide you. Understanding these four essentials along with their relevance and impact will elevate you to DX Hero status now. Jonathan will provide a high-level overview of these principles and how some of his organization's clients have embraced them with resounding success.

Three Pillars of CIA Triad IoT Security | @CloudEXPO @WindRiver #IoT #IIoT #SmartCities #DigitalTransformation

The transition from closed networks to enterprise IT networks to the public Internet is accelerating at an alarming pace-and justly raising alarms about security. As we become increasingly reliant on intelligent, interconnected devices in every aspect of our lives, how do we protect potentially billions of them from intrusions and interference that could compromise personal privacy or threaten public safety? This discussion will highlight which means there are to protect IoT devices from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or even destruction. The base foundation for this kind of security is the CIA triad, composed of the following three pillars: confidentiality, integrity and availability. Confidentiality for preserving authorized restrictions on access and disclosure; integrity for guarding against improper information modification or destruction and ensuring information nonrepudiation and authenticity; and availability for ensuring timely and reliable access to the device and information.

Is Hybrid the Missing Link to Cloud? | @CloudEXPO @SteadfastNET #Cloud #CIO #Serverless #DataCenter #DigitalTransformation

Concerns about security, downtime and latency, budgets, and general unfamiliarity with cloud technologies continue to create hesitation for many organizations that truly need to be developing a cloud strategy. Hybrid cloud solutions are helping to elevate those concerns by enabling the combination or orchestration of two or more platforms, including on-premise infrastructure, private clouds and/or third-party, public cloud services. This gives organizations more comfort to begin their digital transformation without a complete overhaul of their existing infrastructure - serving as a sort of "missing link" for transition to cloud utilization.
