Big Challenges of #BigData | @CloudExpo @Gemalto #Security #AI #ML #DL

Between 2005 and 2020, data volumes will grow by a factor of 300 – enough data to stack CDs from the earth to the moon 162 times. This has come to be known as the ‘big data’ phenomenon. Unfortunately, traditional approaches to handling, storing and analyzing data aren’t adequate at this scale: they’re too costly, slow and physically cumbersome to keep up. Fortunately, in response a new breed of technology has emerged that is cheaper, faster and more scalable. Yet, in meeting these new needs they break many of the traditional security approaches on which enterprises depended. In these massive data volumes, how are organizations going to ensure that their customer information is safe from people looking to exploit it? Is it possible to adopt big data technologies while demonstrating compliance with industry regulations? Will security get in the way of the analytics tools organizations need to make this data useful?

Predator of #DigitalTransformation | @ExpoDX @Alfresco #AI #API #IoT #IIoT

According to Forrester Research, every business will become either a digital predator or digital prey by 2020. To avoid demise, organizations must rapidly create new sources of value in their end-to-end customer experiences. True digital predators also must break down information and process silos and extend digital transformation initiatives to empower employees with the digital resources needed to win, serve, and retain customers.

"Once customers get a year into their IoT deployments, they start to realize that they may have been shortsighted in the ways they built out their deployment and the key thing I see a lot of people looking at is - how can I take equipment data, pull it back in an IoT solution and show it in a dashboard," stated Dave McCarthy, Director of Products at Bsquare Corporation, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held November 1-3, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.

Security and #MachineLearning | @CloudExpo #ML #AI #DL #CyberSecurity

For large enterprise organizations, it can be next-to-impossible to identify attacks and act to mitigate them in good time. That’s one of the reasons executives often discover security breaches when an external researcher — or worse, a journalist — gets in touch to ask why hundreds of millions of logins for their company’s services are freely available on hacker forums. The huge volume of incoming connections, the heterogeneity of services, and the desire to avoid false positives leave enterprise security teams in a difficult spot. Finding potential security breaches is like finding a tiny needle in a very large haystack — monitoring millions of connections over thousands of servers is not something that can be managed by a team of humans.

IoT Personalization by @KevLindsay | @ExpoDX @Adobe @AdobeTarget @24Notion #IoT #IIoT #SmartCities #DigitalTransformation

More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smart's sake," and many brands remain in that corner. But many brands are also gradually opting for more strategic approaches. They're taking a breath and stepping back to examine both existing and potential IoT experiences, asking themselves whether their products lend real value. Once we reach this goal, the implications for personalization are staggering. Consumers will expect devices they use and items they wear to be connected and add value to their lives. We'll expect scales to weigh us, assess our body fat, and sync with our mobile device for personalized recommendations. Connected devices will be just another touchpoint in our increasingly digital lives. As a result, we'll have the data, personalized touchpoints, and context to achieve great success with spot-on relevance that continues to evolve.

Implementing DevOps, Step 1: Buy T-Shirts… | @DevOpsSummit #APM #DevOps #ContinuousDelivery

I was walking down the street in Toronto one morning juggling a large tray of Tim Horton's coffee. Standing at a busy corner, waiting for the walk signal, I overheard the following conversation: Woman: "I can't believe they delivered the new application with all those options. No one said they'd be live." Man: "I know. I made the changes last week, and for some reason, they went into QA but weren't tested. So I assumed that we weren't rolling them out."

From IoT Service to #IoT Profit | @ThingsExpo #BigData #M2M #AI #ML

Whether your IoT service is connecting cars, homes, appliances, wearable, cameras or other devices, one question hangs in the balance – how do you actually make money from this service? The ability to turn your IoT service into profit requires the ability to create a monetization strategy that is flexible, scalable and working for you in real-time. It must be a transparent, smoothly implemented strategy that all stakeholders – from customers to the board – will be able to understand and comprehend.

We are always looking for ways to help companies deliver digital experiences that will meet customers expectations in terms of content and performance. Tackling these 5 challenges is a good step towards delivering a top-notch digital experience. We are in the midst of a great evolution when it comes to website design. Formerly text-heavy sites now rely on eye-catching images and video to draw in visitors, improve engagement rates and drive readership. These results are proven. Articles with relevant images get 94 percent more total views, according to digital marketing expert Jeff Bullas. And images are vital to websites influencing page views and user engagement for news articles, press material, local search, eCommerce, and social media.

[slides] Compliance in the Cloud | @CloudExpo @IBMcloud #InfoSec #FedRAMP

Regulatory requirements exist to promote the controlled sharing of information, while protecting the privacy and/or security of the information. Regulations for each type of information have their own set of rules, policies, and guidelines. Cloud Service Providers (CSP) are faced with increasing demand for services at decreasing prices. Demonstrating and maintaining compliance with regulations is a nontrivial task and doing so against numerous sets of regulatory requirements can be daunting task. CSPs need a foundation that provides a uniform, non-repetitive view across all the requirements.

Cloud-Native Apps | @CloudExpo #Cloud #DataCenter #SDN #IoT #M2M #API

We've come across a lot of talk about "cloud-native" apps lately. (They even have their own foundation!) Developers build these apps specifically to run on a cloud-based infrastructure, with the kind of user interface we all expect from our apps now. Cloud-native applications are scalable, usable and flexible, usually packaged using containers. It's a step further in the cloud computing journey, and a step away from the way we used to conceive of apps. Application development happened for many years inside an IT bubble, with a long development and deployment lifecycle. They were used only in-house, on desktop computers, which were also on a strict, and non-agile, refresh cycle.
