Faster, Smarter DevOps | @DevOpsSummit #Agile #DevOps #Microservices

Call it DevOps or not, if you are concerned about releasing more code faster and at a higher quality, the resulting software delivery chain and process will look and smell like DevOps. But for existing development teams, no matter what the velocity objective is, getting from here to there is not something that can be done without a plan. Moving your release cadence from months to weeks is not just about learning Agile practices and getting some automation tools. It involves people, tooling and a transition plan. I will discuss some of the benefits and approaches to getting there.

Industrial Internet of Things | @ThingsExpo #IoT #IIoT #DigitalTransformation

Throughout history, industrial revolutions have hinged on the power of automating processes. While automation today offers many benefits, imagine if you could automate thousands – or even millions – of processes simultaneously? This is the next potential wave of innovation, and it’s the organizations that are “geographically dispersed” or “automation heavy” that will benefit the most. While long-range communications and connectivity have become increasingly easier to attain, businesses need to be able to break down their isolated islands of automation in industry to achieve comprehensive and connected automation at scale. For example, there always has been a clear line dividing operations technology (OT) and information technology (IT) networks. The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) blurs that line as industrial operations head in the direction of complete connectivity for all devices on a network - including those remotely located in the field. With new dedicated access layer platforms, IoT data can be analyzed, acted upon and transmitted from anywhere in an Industrial IoT (IIoT) network.

What Is #DigitalTransformation? | @CloudExpo #Cloud #IoT #M2M #BigData

In the rush to compete in the digital age, a successful digital transformation is essential, but many organizations are setting themselves up for failure. There’s a common misconception that the process is just about technology, but it’s not. It’s about your business. It shouldn’t be treated as an isolated IT project; it should be driven by business needs with the committed involvement of a range of stakeholders.

Top Two Features of Self-Healing Microservices | @CloudExpo #Cloud #Microservices

Microservices-based environments are more complex than their monolithic counterparts. To operate microservices environments with the same level of convenience that you’ve come expect from operating self-contained monolithic application environments, you need to have the right tools in place and rely on best practices that will keep your microservices healthy. We’ve noticing an increasing number of microservices environments deployed by our customers, and the trend only seems to be increasing. We recently asked some of these customers about their experiences. Most of their responses were in line with expectations. Two issues however caught us by surprise.

How to Assess Impact of the ‘Panama Papers’ on Your Network | @BigDataExpo #BigData

We all awoke last week to the latest regulatory and reputational risk since names like Madoff and Snowden burst into the headline. Weekly, there are smaller local skirmishes between the behavior of companies, public officials and the prying eyes of an ever more symbiotic relationship between the press and motivated whistle blowers. It is difficult to imagine a practical preventive solution to knowledgeable individuals actively trying to circumvent well-known regulations. Much like the industry’s ongoing cyber-security arms race, compliance organizations need to rethink and rebuild their detect-response operations.

Are You Ready to Transition to Mobile and Cloud Technologies? | @CloudExpo #Cloud

In recent years, quality assurance teams have become accustomed to a variety of new technologies. It has been a big change for the many quality assurance analysts who came of age at a time when waterfall development methodologies and PC-centric applications were their front and center concerns. Now they have to adjust to the realities of cloud computing and the ever-expanding mobile device ecosystem. A lot of infrastructures, development platforms and applications are being shifted off-premises to public and private clouds, while the device mix at many enterprises is becoming more diverse.

State of 5th DevOps Report By @RealGeneKim | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps

As I have mentioned many times, I’ve learned more doing this project than any project in my professional career. This has been a four-year collaboration with Jez Humble and Dr. Nicole Forsgren, as well as Nigel Kersten and Alanna Brown from Puppet Labs. "I only got four hours of sleep last night. I woke up after an anxiety dream about deadlocks in the database." Anyone who has run an online service probably knows this feeling. And this is what Jez Humble wrote on our Slack channel, 24 hours before the launch of the 5th annual State of DevOps Survey. Spread the DevOps Virus | @DevOpsSummit #Agile #DevOps #Microservices

Today most enterprises are undergoing massive shifts under the name digital transformation. Let’s say you successfully navigate this transformation. Will you be done? Of course not – change will be ongoing and even accelerating. So, is it good enough to struggle through one transformation after another? Or is the more strategic decision to become better able to deal with such change – in other words, to be more agile?

Ask Before Adopting IoT | @ThingsExpo #IoT #M2M #DigitalTransformation

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: there’s another side to the Internet that isn’t just about connecting people. The Internet of Things (IoT) is about connecting virtually any “thing” or machine. They could range from personal wearables to smart homes, smart cities’ infrastructure, utilities, transportation, and manufacturing. You’ve probably heard by now; the IoT is far bigger than the Internet of people, and it’s growing fast. Gartner says the IoT will grow 30 percent in 2016, reaching 6.4 billion devices, with more than five million new devices connected daily. It’s expected to continue growing to 20.8 billion devices by 2020.

Critical (Outdoor) IoT Applications | @ThingsExpo #IoT #IIoT #M2M #InternetOfThings

It’s safe to assume that the majority of all Internet of Things (IoT) devices operate near large populations of people. Of course, right? This is where the action happens – smart devices, smart cars, smart infrastructure, smart cities, etc. Plus, the cost of getting “internet-connected” in these areas is relatively low – public access to Wi-Fi is becoming widely available, cellular coverage is blanketed over cities, etc.

[session] Step-by-Step IoTization By @TonyShan | @ThingsExpo #IoT

The paradigm has shifted. A Gartner survey shows that 43% of organizations are using or plan to implement the Internet of Things in 2016. However, not just a handful of companies are still using the old-style ad-hoc trial-and-error ways, unaware of the critical barriers, paint points, traps, and hidden roadblocks. How can you become a winner? In his session at @ThingsExpo, Tony Shan will present a methodical approach to guide the holistic adoption and enablement of IoT implementations. This overarching model is an adaptive framework to systematically handle the rapid changes and exponential growth, composed of the following modules: Prototype, Extend, Assess, Strategize, Formulate, Accelerate, Initiate, and Revamp (PEAS FAIR). We will zoom in to individual components in each module. Working examples will be discussed to illustrate the practical use of this method in the real world, along with best practices and lessons learned to help organizations IoTize step-by-step.

Has SaaS Become Mission Critical for You? By @Catchpoint | @CloudExpo #Cloud

Software as a Service has been around for a while. In its early years—late 1990s-early 2000s—it was mostly aimed at individual and departmental use, but in more recent years SaaS has been deployed at the enterprise level. There are companies that don’t use anything else. In the beginning, SaaS was used by companies more for productivity applications like web conferencing, managing travel expenses and sales contacts, or time-tracking than for core business applications.

Scaled Agile Factory - Going Beyond the Usual Suspects | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps

If you address the question of how to scale Agile projects by considering what framework to use, you are only looking at one aspect of the problem. Scaling is all about coordination – managing enterprise considerations and cross program dependencies, and the defacto frameworks (SAFe, LeSS and DAD) focus on the people and process dimensions. However, in combination with a factory approach you may be able to automate many of the compliance and dependency management issues.
