What are the benefits of HPC model-based simulation technical computing? In his session at the 5th International Cloud Expo, Robert Graybill, Director of Innovation at the University of Southern California Information Sciences Institute (ISI), will examine the benefits for four supply chain companies based on the results from a government funded project in which Cloud Computing was used as a way to lower the barriers of HPC technical computing entry for these small supply chain companies.

I noted in the last 11gPS1 release of JDev (well, at least I didn't see it in any earlier releases) that the text editor has a few additional facilities available under the Source menu:
Of particular note there are now entries to Trim Trailing Whitespace, and Convert Leading Tabs to Spaces, which for me have always been important text editor feature, as both of them make editing source code easier beyond their application. Some of these features such as the Macro playback options have been available for a longtime in JDev as revealed by looking through the Shortcut Keys options under Tools -> Preferences. However the point is they now get a menu option!
As a side note, some of the Source menu features can be applied automatically when saving a file. This option is accessible via the Tools -> Preferences -> Code Editor -> Save Actions options:
The Save Actions facility was available in earlier releases of JDev, well, at least 11.1.1.1.0 where I could test it on my local machine.

Risking the fire-breathing wrath of Apple, Opera plans to preview an unsanctioned version of its browser for the iPhone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. Cautiously, it’s not going to show it off to just anybody, only partners and the press. How Apple will react in defense of its own Safari browser is a curiosity given its policy of not duplicating functionality and casting Google Voice into the outer darkness last year.

BIRT supplies scripting hooks for just about every report element in the palette. You can generally implement an onPrepare, onCreate, and onRender event handler for each of these report items. The onPrepare event fires before data is retrieved and allows you to change the design for a specific report item. The onCreate event fires when the report item is being created by the report engine’s generation task. The onRender event fires when the report item is being rendered by the report engine’s render task. These events and example are described on the BIRT website.

The recession may have driven Silicon Valley’s innovation engine straight off the cliff, according to an annual study by two local non-profits, Silicon Valley Network and Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Based on their just-released 76-page 2010 Silicon Valley Index they say the Valley is stalled and that it’s “hard to say is whether we’re stuck in neutral, which has happened before, or whether it’s time now for a complete overhaul.”
