The consensus seems to be, at least from the myriad surveys, studies, and research, that cloud as a model is the right answer, it’s just the location that’s problematic for most organizations. Organizations aren’t ignoring reality; they know there are real benefits associated with cloud computing. But they aren’t yet – and may never be – willing to give up control. And there are good reasons to maintain that control, from security to accountability to agility. But the “people” still want the benefits of cloud, so the question is: how do we put the power of ( cloud | elastic | on-demand) computing into the hands of the people who will benefit from it without requiring that they relocate to a new address “in the cloud?”
After an announcement a few days ago from Apple, it seems certain now that Steve Jobs will not be giving the keynote at WWDC in San Francisco, rather this position will be filled by Philip Schiller...
From today, iPhone owners can download GyPSii directly from the popular iPhone App store and immediately start creating and sharing “geotagged” content in real time with friends, family, and the growing global community of GyPSii members. The places and experiences users create then become true Internet-searchable destinations, available for friends and communities to share and comment on, not only in GyPSii, but also across other social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
Risks with virtualization is same as it ever was but different. Hoff makes a good point about cloud security last month in his “The Cloud is a Fickle Mistress: DDoS&M” which was, if I may quote, “it’s the oldies and goodies that will come back to haunt us.” In other words, it’s the well-known, well-understood protocol-based attacks of uncloud computing that will be problematic for cloud computing.

The Java Community Process requires the development of not only technical specifications, but also Reference Implementations (which prove that specs can be implemented) and conformance test suites (Technology Compatibility Kits or TCKs), which are used to verify that implementations conform to the specifications.

Reducing resistance to iPhone in the Enterprise is happening and other blogs point in same direction! I was happy to see that Rachael King, who writes for Business Week has just posted two very interesting articles
The iPhone and devices that are following in its wake provide the best platform yet for enabling mobile advertising because they are optimised for rich media applications like video and also provide a genuinely good mobile browsing experience. This means the potential for better, more creative mobile advertising campaigns and of course a more engaging user experience. Another big plus for advertising on the iPhone is the kind of people that own them.
The New York Times has posted an article with the headline, “Apple iPhone Owners Don’t Use It For Work” – quite a bold statement... In response to the New York Times article, Robin Wauters wrote a blog on TechCrunch questioning where the survey stats were coming from and how the headline was misleading... I agree with both sides, though I side with Robin and I know that times, they are a changing! Its my opinion that you have to look at the broader picture of these devices...
A few days ago I blogged about suppressing the SOAP fault detail Java stack trace on WebLogic Server when using the JAX-WS @SchemaValidation annotation for your web services. One of the problems with the @SchemaValidation annotation is dependent on the error in your incoming SOAP payload, you may get all sorts of potential errors returned in a SOAP fault.

I've always been interested in the Microsoft and Apple story. It amazes me what these two companies did and how they did it. Both started by young enthusiastic people. Honestly, I envy people like Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Bill Gates, Paul Allen and Steve Ballmer. They were at the forefront of something huge.
A co-worker brought this to my attention: http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/history/. It's a new video series on Microsoft Channel 9. It brings you back, via short videos, to the time when it all started for Microsoft. It's very inspirational stuff.
This is no lie, one of my favorite movies is Pirates of Silicon Valley. I know that it very quickly goes through the beginnings of Apple and Microsoft but it's still great to watch nonetheless.
The one thing that bothers me is that I didn't have the opportunity to get in on the action back in the 70's. Could you just imagine.
