As those container applications move into production, some IT operations teams are suddenly finding themselves flying blind. Unless IT operations upgrade to new approaches to managing DevOps by using more modern monitoring solutions, containers and microservices will wind up doing more to troubleshoot issues than actually speeding up development processes.

There’s no shortage of DevOps stories, but every so often one blows me away, like the one I heard last week at the Gartner Symposium in Barcelona. Societe Generale, one of the world’s largest banks with almost 150,000 employees in over 50 countries, is a story about a broad ranging, comprehensive, hugely successful transformation that provides a model for other large organizations wanting to realize the benefits of DevOps and Continuous Delivery.
A few years ago a popular industry buzzword term theme included server less and hardware less. It turns out, serverless BS (SLBS) and hardware less are still trendy, and while some might view the cloud or software-defined data center (SDDC) virtualization, or IoT folks as the culprits, it is more widespread with plenty of bandwagon riders. SLBS can span from IoT to mobile, VDI and workspace clients (zero or similar), workstations, server, storage, networks. To me what’s ironic is that many purveyors of of SLBS also like to talk about hardware.
