[video] @DHinchcliffe's #IoT Keynote | @ThingsExpo #BI #AI #CIO #FinTech

A strange thing is happening along the way to the Internet of Things, namely far too many devices to work with and manage. It has become clear that we'll need much higher efficiency user experiences that can allow us to more easily and scalably work with the thousands of devices that will soon be in each of our lives. Enter the conversational interface revolution, combining bots we can literally talk with, gesture to, and even direct with our thoughts, with embedded artificial intelligence, which can process our conversational commands and orchestrate the outcomes we request across our personal and professional realm of connected devices.

[session] #FinTech Analytics | @CloudExpo @KineticaDB #Bitcoin #Blockchain

The financial services market is one of the most data-driven industries in the world, yet it’s bogged down by legacy CPU technologies that simply can’t keep up with the task of querying and visualizing billions of records. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Jared Parker, Director of Financial Services at Kinetica, will discuss how the advent of advanced in-database analytics on the GPU makes it possible to run sophisticated data science workloads on the same database that is housing the rich information needed to drive trading decisions. With the unique multi-core architecture of the GPU, financial computations can be processed efficiently and quickly, making it ideal for financial services streaming datasets. He will share how several financial institutions’ quantitative science groups are specifically using GPUs to accelerate analytics, deep learning/machine learning, and converging AI and BI.

Monitoring in the #Microservices Age | @DevOpsSummit #APM #Monitoring

Thanks to Docker and the DevOps revolution, microservices have emerged as the new way to build and deploy applications — and there are plenty of great reasons to embrace the microservices trend. If you are going to adopt microservices, you also have to understand that microservice architectures have many moving parts. When it comes to incident management, this presents an important difference between microservices and monolithic architectures. More moving parts mean more complexity to monitor and manage in order to keep applications and infrastructure healthy and running.

Cloud and Virtualization | @CloudExpo @SHD_9 #PaaS #SaaS #AI #SDN #SDS

As today’s businesses increasingly turn to the cloud to run their operations, seasoned enterprise technology professionals may recognize a familiar pattern. Years ago, virtualization emerged as a transformational technology with a similar pattern of business drivers; initially the promise of significant cost savings justified deployments. Just as virtualization evolved from a tactical cost-saving technology into a corporate strategy enabling enterprises to be responsive to changing business demands, cloud computing is following a similar path.

[video] #BigData-Driven #DevOps | @DevOpsSummit #IoT #SDN #Monitoring

DevOps is being widely accepted (if not fully adopted) as essential in enterprise IT. But as Enterprise DevOps gains maturity, expands scope, and increases velocity, the need for data-driven decisions across teams becomes more acute. DevOps teams in any modern business must wrangle the ‘digital exhaust’ from the delivery toolchain, "pervasive" and "cognitive" computing, APIs and services, mobile devices and applications, the Internet of Things, and now even blockchain.

Bet on the Cloud That’s Right for You | @CloudExpo #API #Cloud

This week's news brings us further reminders that if you're betting on cloud, you're headed in the right direction. The cloud is growing seven times faster than the rest of IT, according to IDC, with a 25% spending increase just from 2016 to 2017. SaaS still leads the pack, with an estimated two-thirds of public cloud spending going that way. Large enterprises, with more than 1,000 employees, are predicted to account for more than half of cloud spending and have the fastest annual growth rate.

[session] @Intel to Present #Kubernetes at @DevOpsSummit NY | #DevOps #AI

Given the popularity of the containers, further investment in the telco/cable industry is needed to transition existing VM-based solutions to containerized cloud native deployments. The networking architecture of the solution isolates the network traffic into different network planes (e.g., management, control, and media). This naturally makes support for multiple interfaces in container orchestration engines an indispensable requirement.

The Myth of 'Mission-Critical' | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps #APM #Monitoring

I was reading an article today that discusses managing “mission-critical” applications. I really dislike that term. It’s trite, it’s dated – even nonsensical. It suggests that applications fall into two groups – mission-critical, and…optional? marginal? unnecessary? one step away from being voted off the island? Here’s the fallacy with that view – people that run IT organizations are smart, and they invest in stuff that matters to the business. They don’t run apps that don’t provide value because they excel at cost-efficiency. So the notion that relatively few apps are actually worth managing is illogical. Even email, the poster child for apps at the bottom of the food chain, is essential to the operation of a 21st century organization – it’s how they stay organized.

[slides] Multi-Cloud #DevOps | @CloudExpo @Valb00 @NetApp @SolidFire #AI

All clouds are not equal. To succeed in a DevOps context, organizations should plan to develop/deploy apps across a choice of on-premise and public clouds simultaneously depending on the business needs. This is where the concept of the Lean Cloud comes in - resting on the idea that you often need to relocate your app modules over their life cycles for both innovation and operational efficiency in the cloud. In his session at @DevOpsSummit at19th Cloud Expo, Valentin (Val) Bercovici, CTO of SolidFire, discussed how to leverage this concept to seize on the creativity and business agility to make it real.

From #BigData to #FastData | @CloudExpo #DevOps #AI #APM #Monitoring

Big data is old news. Today, the key to leveraging data effectively is to do fast data. In a similar fashion, traditional incident management—which entails collecting and analyzing large volumes of monitoring information—is no longer enough. Organizations must also now do “fast monitoring,” which means not only collecting monitoring data; but making it actionable in real-time. This post examines what fast monitoring means, and explains how incident management teams can implement this approach to realize great benefits.

Your #IoT Network Needs Saving | @CloudExpo @128Technology #SDN #SDS

The network is at the core of every business, yet the majority of today’s networks were not designed to handle the next generation of business requirements. More than two decades ago the world standardized on the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) / Internet Protocol (IP) stack and little innovation has taken place in routing since. Modern networks are built upon the same fundamental protocols established before anyone could envision current demands. This has given rise to an entire industry surrounding routers aimed at delivering bolt-on functionality such as firewalls and load balancers. This approach has resulted in outages and data breaches for businesses as these jerry-rigged networks continue to grow too complex, too fragile and too expensive to deliver the security, control and agility needed for cloud, mobile and IoT applications.

[session] If #IoT Is the Meteor, Is #OT the Dinosaur? | @ThingsExpo @Cisco #AI

In his session at @ThingsExpo, Sudarshan Krishnamurthi, a Senior Manager, Business Strategy, at Cisco Systems, will discuss how IT and operational technology (OT) work together, as opposed to being in separate siloes as once was traditional. Attendees will learn how to fully leverage the power of IoT in their organization by bringing the two sides together and bridging the communication gap. He will also look at what good leadership must entail in order to accomplish this, and how IT managers can be the drivers of change within their organizations. He also will discuss the skill sets needed to ensure that the full power of the IoT can be harnessed.
