Enterprise #DevOps Journey of @Amdocs | @DevOpsSummit #AI #Microservices

When you focus on a journey from up-close, you look at your own technical and cultural history and how you changed it for the benefit of the customer. This was our starting point: too many integration issues, 13 SWP days and very long cycles. It was evident that in this fast-paced industry we could no longer afford this reality. We needed something that would take us beyond reducing the development lifecycles, CI and Agile methodologies. We made a fundamental difference, even changed our culture.

21 #DevOps and #Docker Reference Architectures | @DevOpsSummit #SDN

When building DevOps or continuous delivery practices you can learn a great deal from others. What choices did they make, what practices did they put in place, and how did they connect the dots? At Sonatype, we pulled together a set of 21 reference architectures for folks building continuous delivery and DevOps practices using Docker. Why? After 3,000 DevOps professionals attended our webinar on "Continuous Integration using Docker" discussing just one reference architecture example, we recognized there was a strong interest in the community to learn more. That's why we assembled 20 more reference architectures into this collection.

Time for the Tail to Stop Wagging the Dog | @CloudExpo #API #Cloud #Agile

Here’s a novel, but controversial statement, “it’s time for the CEO, COO, CIO to start to take joint responsibility for application platform decisions.” For too many years now technical meritocracy has led the decision-making for the business with regard to platform selection. This includes, but is not limited to, servers, operating systems, virtualization, cloud and application platforms. In many of these cases the decision has not worked in favor of the business with regard to agility and costs.

Robots, Automation and the Next 40 Months | @ThingsExpo #IoT #M2M #DigitalTransformation

In a world that operates on billions of digits every day, humans are too slow and inattentive. To adapt, we must automate the processing of millions of complex transactions on a daily basis, at speeds fast enough to satisfy impatient digital users. This adaption requires a massive level of digital transformation that can support operations, business processes and decision-making speeds faster than is humanly possible.

A #Blockchain Framework | @CloudExpo #FinTech #ML #DigitalTransformation

As good Venn diagrams always show it's the intersection areas that offer the sweet spot for trends and markets, and an especially potent one is the intersection of Cloud computing, with the blockchain and also digital identity, particularly when considered within contexts such as Digital Democracy. Given the diversity of each field alone there are multiple perspectives to this, more the start of a conversation rather than a definitive design.

Insurance Industry's #DigitalTransformation | @CloudExpo @AppDynamics #ML

The insurance industry is well aware that digital transformation is coming, even if some CIOs can’t really say what their individual companies will look like at the end of it all. In a survey of thousands of C-level execs around the world, insurance came in among the top five industries that are most likely to see “moderate to massive” digital disruption within the next 12 months. Only 20 percent of business leaders felt that they had the talent they needed to transform the enterprise, though. Here’s a closer look at what’s coming next in the exciting new era of software-defined insurance companies.

Better Predictors | @CloudExpo @Schmarzo #BigData #IoT #AI #ML #Analytics

I love the simplicity of the data science concepts as taught by the book “Moneyball.” Everyone wants to jump right into the real meaty, highly technical data science books. But I recommend to my students to start with the book “Moneyball.” The book does a great job of making the power of data science come to life (and the movie doesn’t count, as my wife saw it and “Brad Pitt is so cute!” was her only takeaway…ugh).

The Pros and Cons of an Industry Cloud Application | @CloudExpo #API #Cloud

When call centers first came about in the 1960s, they were built over PBX systems. Private Branch Exchanges (PBX) are essentially a small-scale version of the telephone exchange and are typically handled by one of the few telephone network providers in the country. Fast forward to today, a call center software provider does not need to own even the VoIP line that is necessary to handle communication. The software can simply connect to third party VoIP services with the help of an API and get started on their service. The cloud has brought down the cost of operating a business and while this is a good thing for the consumers, it also means a rise in the number of competitors one has to deal with.

Bouncy Castle and Encryption | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps #SDN #AI #ML #DL

In September 2014, Apple made encryption default with the introduction of the iPhone 6. Then, in February 2016, a Los Angeles judge issued an order to Apple to help break into the encrypted iPhone belonging to a terrorist involved in a mass shooting. Apple had used some of the strongest encryption technologies and practices to protect its users and their data. The encryption technology did not discriminate between lawful and unlawful users. While there were many sides to this issue, it surfaced many important debates on security, privacy, and civil rights.

Hybrid Cloud Security | @CloudExpo #SDN #AI #ML #Security #DataCenter

Thanks to its many business benefits, cloud computing is becoming commonplace within organizations of all sizes. Historically, companies have struggled to determine which model – public or private – best met their needs. But of late, IT professionals are increasingly starting to realize that both public and private clouds can exist harmoniously within the same organization, and that, in many instances, a hybrid cloud model can actually be the most effective approach.
