Our vegetarian Mediterranean feast! Cooked, shared, eaten, nom!

"Burani Bonjon" or Afghan yoguht with aubergine from Veggiestan by Sally Butcher. This is a slightly blurry shot of the (left over) aubergine mixture without the layers of yoguht. But this was a major hit of the night.

Oranges in Orange syrup with Valencia Orange Extract (our substitute for Orange Blossom Water which we failed to restock in time!). Recipe comes from one of Claudia Roden's earlier book... but it's so simple a quick web search will find you the important info on syrup making and you're all set!

This cucumber and pomegranate salad is inexplicably wonderful. We've made it twice and we've only had the book two weeks! Recipe from Veggiestan by Sally Butcher.

Leftover yeasted flat bread/pitta after the six of us ravished most of the batch of 24! The recipe for these little beauties hails from the ever-brilliant Bread by Linda Collister.

This "herby omelette thingie" is dense with parsley and coriander but gets a nice sharp bite from the barberries and a lovely pine nut crunch. Recipe from Veggistan by Sally Butcher.

The world's easiest dip/mezze. Feta and yoguht. Made with feta and yoguht. And dangerously good, especially with the beetroot puree. This was what was left after 6 hungry people attacked a full bowl! Recipe from Arabesque by Claudia Roden.

All that was left of the pureed beetroot with yoguht and za'tar. Stupidly easy to make and totally addictive! Recipe from Jerusalem by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi.

Hideously out of focus... oh dear...

This is a roast red pepper puree from, I think, Arabesque by Claudia Roden. Yummy, tangy, and not that blurry in reality!

Fried cauliflower with tahini: it may look weird but it's tangy and tart and has a lovely bitter tahini edge. Recipe from Jerusalem by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi.
